2024 Acura ZDX Type S revealed with 500 hp

Acura announced the coming of its first electric vehicle with a familiar name in Monterey Car Week. The arrival of the luxury Acura ZDX in 2024 is expected to draw much attention to this branch of Honda. While the ZDX nameplate is recovered from the 2009 coupe-like SUV model, discontinued in 2013, this car comes with many new features and represents the brand’s first EV.

Powered by electricity

GM’s Altium scalable battery platform powers this vehicle. The 102.0-kWh battery pack can be charged at the rate of up to 190 kW with a DC fast charger. Ten minutes of charging is estimated to retrieve over 120 kilometers of range. ZDX is introduced in two models: the ZDX A-Spec comes in a single-motor rear-drive version with 340 horsepower, and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive with the horsepower is yet to be announced by the manufacturer. However, Acura Canada promises around 500 kilometers of range for the dual-motor version. The superior type S of the Acura ZDX, featuring dual motors with 500 horsepower and an estimated range of 463 kilometers, will be Acura’s most powerful SUV.

Acura ZDX, in two versions

Type S marks Acura’s most powerful vehicle, and in the case of ZDX, it stands out from the A-spec model in various aspects. S-type ZDX provides adjustable ride height with a system of adaptive dampers and airbags, while the A-spec model uses coil springs for suspension. The S-type is also equipped with Brembo six-piston brakes. The upgrades go further than that, and Acura has improved the S-type with the largest wheels among Acura models with sporty 275/40ZR22 tires.

The design of Acura ZDX

Precision EV concept introduced the design ready for production last year. The designers say that a low center of gravity along with a weight distribution of almost 50/50 were the key priorities in the engineering of ZDX. The car has a smooth and modern outline. With the LED “Jewel Eyes” headlights and features such as a “floating” roof and sublime bodywork, ZDX is a good preview of the direction Acura is taking with its design and style. The A-spec model runs on 20-inch wheels, while the S-type is equipped with 22-inch wheels. The S-type ZDX is also offered in a unique Apex Blue Pearl color.

 Acura ZDX, on the inside

The interior of ZDX also bears Acura’s signature design. The cockpit is designed to provide the driver with maximum comfort and convenience. An 11-inch panel houses the digital instrument, and an 11.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto occupies the center. All ZDX models benefit from the Bang & Olufsen sound-surround system comprising 18 speakers. Driver assists in ZDX and introduces some new features as well. This includes rear cross-traffic braking and a rear pedestrian alert, but the most marked feature is the AcuraWatch 360+ safety system, which enables the car to drive itself on miles of mapped roads across the US and Canada.

Acura ZDX will be open for pre-orders later this year and is expected to be distributed to customers in early 2024. The price for the basic A-spec is estimated at around $ 80,000 in Canada, while the distinguished S-type ZDX will cost at least 10,000 more, starting at over $90,000. As Acura’s first exclusive EV, ZDX represents Acura’s leap into the world of electric vehicles, and monitoring this car’s performance will certainly be a priority for the company to further diversify the brand’s EVs and go up against bigger names in the industry.
